The EMBR is a prerequisite when casting thin slabs with high throughput or when aiming at the higher quality segment.The EMBR generates a static magnetic field that will decrease the meniscus metal flow speed and turbulence, thus practically eliminating the mold powder entrapments.
The inclusions remaining after the Ca-treatment are small and have a limited floating-up capability. The reduction of the penetration of the metal jets from the casting nozzle is therefore less important and one single braking field is therefore sufficient.
